A series of concept art and visual development works I had done when I Art directed the animated segment of "Enchanted." This is the interior of the main character Giselle's cottage, along with a sample of color script for the sequence. This painted color key was also used directly as production background in the film. The design of the cottage was from James Baxter.

First concept art I did for the castle. Pencil on paper and Photoshop. That first concept was more in a "Lord Of The Rings" kind of mood, which we totally abandoned early in the process.
Architecture sketches for the castle. At that point, we were starting to go in the direction of "Art Nouveau" but we still didn't know if we were going for a 3D or 2D look.

After I tried out different approaches (including that 3D rough of the castle), moods and color schemes, the director went for a 2D look (see the second series of pictures). The map here is actually the map for the 2D castle.
Final look of the castle. The director eventually went for a simple style with a soft colored line around objects to better integrate the characters and stay within the more "Alphonse Much/Art nouveau" look he had chosen.

This is a sample of the concept art designs, visual development and final painted background I did for the magic well inside the castle's garden, where the main character, Giselle, will fall and go through the vortex that will lead her into the real world. I did dozens of sketches for it before getting something that would fit the "Art Nouveau" style the director envisioned.

I developed several designs before James Baxter made a final version from the reverse angle. I finalized the color, lighting and painted the actual production background used in the film. Disney wanted a garden that would be reminiscent of Disneyland, but still remaining inside the frame of an "Art Nouveau" influenced style the director had envisioned.
